Who’s Who – Mr. Michael Winstroem, Associate (Commerce & Finance) of Robert Walters Japan

Date:January 22, 2017 NEWS

Mr. Winstroem was born near Copenhagen and studied European Study and English for his BA and International Marketing and English for his MA at Copenhagen Business School. After the university, he went to Malaysia to work for a start-up company then an e-commerce company called Lazada which is a part of Alibaba group.

He came to Japan in last May to join Robert Walters. It has still been less than a year but he has been enjoying working there a lot since the company is well-structured and it is a challenging job. Robert Walters has become a member of DCCJ from last October.

Q: What is Robert Walters all about?

It is one of the largest and top specialist recruitment companies founded in 1985 in the UK and has been doing business in Japan for over 16 years. We have 55 offices in 27 countries. Japan is the most profitable market for us in the world and there are 170 consultants in Tokyo and 30+ in Osaka.

Q: Any news from the company?

We are the official sponsor of the Japan National Rugby Team and looking forward to the World Cup in 2019 to be held here in Japan.

Q: Have you lived in other countries besides Japan?

Lived in Malaysia and the US (San Diego).

Q: What about your hobbies?

Playing and watching football (Arsenal supporter!) Workout in the gym (Golds Gym).

Q: What do you like about Japan?

I like the people and the culture here. People are friendly and showing respect for you, like listening to you, etc. There are many cultural activities here. Also the system of transportation is very convenient.

Q: What do you miss about Denmark?

Friends and family. And Copenhagen in the summer time. I miss watching football too, because it is difficult to watch games due to the time difference!

Q: What is your favorite food/dish?

In Japan I like fresh fish but I like all sort of meals apart from ‘offal’.
In Denmark I like meat balls called ‘frikadelle’ and roast pork.

Q: If you won 1 million US dollars in lottery, what would you do?

I would upgrade my living and wardrobe then save the rest. I would like to travel too so would go to Sri Lanka and New Zealand, because I always wanted to visit there.

Q: What do you expect from DCCJ?

Professionally, networking. Personally, connection such as to find the people to hang out with.
